SOLE Spotlight | Discussions and Late Submission | June 2021

Discussions allows asynchronous communication between students and instructors who want to discuss and share their teaching and learning in a virtual learning community. In a Discussion, you can post a new discussion, read and reply to a discussion, comment on others' replies, share files, search, bookmark and subscribe.

Adding a Discussion

To access the Discussion tool begin by clicking the Communication from the Left Navigation then clicking Discussion. The General Tab will open automatically after you've clicked on add a discussion. This is where you will begin defining General Settings and optional Advanced Settings.

Late Submission

If the Discussion is linked to the Gradebook and has a defined Due Date with Late Submissions allowed, the Grade Reduction setting will also be available. For Late submissions, reductions can be applied using the global settings set within Gradebook settings. You can choose to enact no grade reduction, a one time grade reduction, or a daily grade reduction for each day past the due date it is submitted. Click the checkbox to override reduction settings on existing gradebook assignments.
